This was our big black bus for the trip. Very comfortble! |
The tour began with a beautiful view of Dubrovnik's old, walled city (which we explored a little bit on our own the first day. In the left picture, the gray fortress on the cliff in the upper right of the picture is the fortress that I'm standing in front of on page 1, picture 4.). |
Re-entering the gates of Dubrovnik's old city. It seriously felt like we were entering Disneyland; the town is so magical! ;) Dubrovnik is known as the "Jewel of the Adriatic". | This map shows the destruction of the old town during its siege in the early 1990s. Black marks represent the buildings that were struck (69% of the city's buildings), the red squares are those that burned down. Today they have completed the replacement of 80% of these roofs. |
The Dominican Monastery and Franciscan Monastery with its Pharmacy, one of the oldest in the world. |
The most amazing views came from walking atop the old walls that enclose the city. |
Throughout Dubrovnik you see bright red, new roofs. These bright red roofs were the ones that were shelled in the early 90s and had to be replaced. An example of an old roof is shown in the picture on the right. |
Views of the beautiful Adriatic. |
A view of the old city's port... |
which is where we decided to have dinner!
I got the seafood risotto filled with muscles, clams, shrimp and squid. Jason got the grilled shrimp with lemon and garlic.
Jason wasn't too thrilled with having to remove the heads himself; it reminded him of one too many unexpected surprises at Chinese restaurants. However, we decided to put all the heads on a plate and take a picture for my parents, cuz we knew they'd be so proud of him! |

Sunset views of the Adriatic, and of the old city (right).
