(page 6) Plitvice Lakes National Park - a string of 16 gorgeous lakes that spill into each other creating cascades and waterfalls. As explained by our guidebook A Rough Guide to Croatia: "This unique landscape came into being as a result of the action of travertine, calcium-rich material picked up by the river and then deposited downstream - a process which, when repeated over the course of several millenia, produced a terraced sequence of barriers behind which lakes formed."
A map of Plitvice (left). A gorgeous view of a few of the lakes and waterfalls. |

We took a boat to the lower lakes.
| The water was so clear EVERYWHERE, from the Adriatic Sea to these lakes. We think these are trout because that's what was served for dinner that night. |
|
The color of the water was so beautiful.
| At the start of our 6 km walk, there was a stand selling homemade strudels - cherry, nut, blueberry, poppy seed, apple, and cheese.

After the hike, we had a delicious cheese strudel...
| ...before heading back to the hotel for a lunch of french fries for me (I was sooo craving them), and fried mozarella for Jason. SOOO GOOD!! |
